Racing

After the opening round in Portimao the World Championship circus moved to Argentina, for the first overseas race of the year. Weather conditions influenced the weekend, especially the race on the wet. Mario Aji started well, gaining some positions, in the lookout for his first points. Unfortunately the Indonesian rider crashed towards the end of the race following a contact with another rider. Taiyo Furusato closed eighteenth, facing a wet race for the first time. Although the final position is not what expected, the Japanese rider learnt a lot today and showed improvement in the second part of the race. Next stop Austin, in 2 weeks.

MOTO3: MARIO SURYO AJI #64
Grid P23 – Race DNF

It’s a shame about today. I crashed close to the end of the race and the points positions. I’m convinced that I had options to finish P12 or P13. But one rider touched me, and I crashed. But it isn’t the end of the world. Plenty of races are in front, and many chances to make a good race. It’s a shame, but I’m motivated to score points in the next races.

MOTO3: TAIYO FURUSATO #72
Grid P26 – Race P18

A difficult day today; I never rode in these conditions before. Initially, I struggled to get the feeling, but I started to get it during the race, catching some riders. My pace for the last laps was quite good, not as we wanted, but engaging, being my first race in wet. The positive is the experience achieved, which will help me in the future.

HIROSHI AOYAMA – Team Manager

Today we’ve got a wet race. Mario did a good start, gaining four positions in the first lap and catching up with the big top group. He had clear options to score points; it was a realistic option for him today. But at lap 13, another rider touched him out and crashed. It wasn’t his fault, but he missed an excellent opportunity today. About Taiyo, he struggled a lot at the beginning of the race, losing more than one second per lap. But in the end, he did a good lap time, riding quite well in wet conditions, but couldn’t reduce the gap lost. He must improve to get speed as quickly as possible. Anyway, we finished the weekend, it wasn’t a good weekend for us, but we will keep working.
