The curtain opened this weekend, at Portimao, for the MotoGP World Championship 2023. MIVV and HONDA renewed their partnership in Moto3 class by giving continuity to the project started in 2021: supporting the growth of young Asian talents.
The line-up is the same as last year, with the Indonesian rider Mario Suryo Aji and the Japanese Tayio Furusato but targets are more ambitious.
Both riders had the opportunity to learn a lot in 2022 (as rookies in the championship) and now it’s time to show their improvements.

The weekend started well at Algarve circuit and both riders of Honda Asia team were able to demonstrate their progression, thanks also to the job done during official tests.
A mistake in the qualifying compromised Aji position on the grid, while a crash in FP3 forced Furusato to start back.
Both riders were competitive today in the race and they crossed the finishing line not so far from the point zone (P18 for Aji – P20 for Furusato), which remains the goal for the next races.

MOTO3: MARIO SURYO AJI #64
Grid P22– Race P18

An enjoyable weekend. Not a bad race to start compared to the last year. We’re much close to the other riders in dry condition. I’m not feeling delighted during the race. But when I saw the reaction of my team when I arrived at the box, it made me feel motivated. I suppose I should be happy as well. We must keep working in this direction.

MOTO3: TAIYO FURUSATO #72
Grid P26– Race P20

This weekend I had different feelings here in Portimao. Friday was quite good, but I crashed twice on Saturday, worsening my confidence. In the race, I’ve seen many things to improve; for some, I will need more races. I know now that my riding style is better this year, but I’ve many opportunities to continue learning. My target isn’t to fight for 19th.

A long and tuff Moto3 race here in Portimao. Our riders did best every single lap. The results weren’t what we expected, but they pushed as much as possible. Mario significantly improved a lot, and we’re happy about this point. I think from this point, he catches up with other rivals. About Taiyo, he was maybe too much nervous before the race. The new system of going to the race without a previous warm-up prevents him from performing as he did on the test because it’s stressful for him. But he gets another experience today. Both are motivated for next week in Argentina.
